What drives the TB-500 price
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to thymosin β4, a single chain of forty-three amino acid residues with the formula C212H350N56O78S. Chain length is the main cost driver here. Solid-phase synthesis adds one residue per cycle, so forty-three cycles each carry a small loss of yield, and the crude product contains many closely related deletion sequences that preparative HPLC has to separate out. That makes a milligram of TB-500 dearer to produce than a milligram of a short fragment, even though both arrive in the same lyophilised format. The UK market mostly offers 5 mg and 10 mg vials, and the 10 mg band is markedly cheaper per mg because the fixed costs of testing, filling and labelling a vial are shared across twice the mass. Reading the table by vial size gives the clearest view of what a fair TB-500 price looks like, since a single headline figure hides how much the larger vial saves.
